MIX SESSION - Then What Happened? How to Create a “Lessons Learned” Story

    September 03, 2020
    11:45 AM AKDT - 1:00 PM AKDT

    Date & Time

It’s inevitable. Whether it’s in the “invitation to the shortlist” questions or in the Q&A portion of the interview, a client is bound to ask about “lessons learned.”

Answering that question with a real-life story has so much more power than a generic, blah-blah statement. Clients are looking for ways to get to know your team and to learn how they problem-solve. A story is the perfect way to do that; it's memorable long after the charts and stats and graphs have faded from memory.

In this interactive workshop, we'll explore two short-story structure examples. Using one of those structures, you'll create your own "lessons learned" story and, in the process, learn how to help your team craft stories about their experience that not only answer the question, but let their personalities and smarts shine through.

Presented by Judy Straalsund of Graceworks. Judy is a Freedom Finder  with Graceworks, and has served firms ranging from HOK and Skanska to Hewlett Packard and the Portable Sanitation Association (i.e., the "Porta-Potty" folks) for more than 20 years. Providing creative solutions for a variety of programs, she is a dynamic combination of experienced presentation coach, corporate trainer, artistic director and mountaineering guide. Judy is a born leader who helps people achieve their best.

Based in Portland, Oregon, Judy also heads up the Gracewriting Division. A published author and playwright, she is a master storyteller who also provides copyediting and quality assurance services for firms like Kodak, Nike and Intel. To top it off, Judy is practitioner of WholeBrain Thinking and would love to talk to you about writing proposals with your whole brain!

Judy is geeking about everything from prepositions and punctuation to persuasive writing and corporate presentations. She'd love to help you find your inner geek too!
