SMPS ALASKA CHAPTER
Prepare to Win: Your Guide To Proposal Success Series

Module 1: Positioning and Planning for RFPs, RFQs and SOQs

You have a sales goal, high expectations from your firm’s leadership, and a workforce ready to start when you get the Notice to Proceed. It’s up to smart A/E/C marketers like you to get your firm ready to compete for work available in your market—and win it.

Many firms operate with the idea that their marketing department finds the leads, writes the proposals, and wins the work. But, that’s 20th century thinking. In the new age, smart marketers leverage all their tools, including their firm’s workforce, to find opportunities to attract clients and their projects.

In this session, we’ll look at how market research, client relationship management, team chartering, and creating a group mind will showcase your firm as the logical choice for your client’s needs. Using examples from real market sectors, we’ll delve into ways you can be more proactive in your pursuits and establish your firm’s distinction in this competitive landscape.

If you want to actively pursue work instead of passively wait for it to come to you, learn some simple ways to position your firm for the work you want. It will require some planning to get you in the right place at the right time for your chance to compete.

Learning Objectives:

During this interactive session, participants will:

  • Reinforce the importance of firm goals in positioning to win
  • Discover and use specific tools to identify and support pursuing potential targets
  • Establish and foster relationships that aid in your firm’s objectives
  • Uncover your marketing allies within and outside the firm
  • Communicate the firm’s objectives so the entire company is invested in successfully achieving them

Many secrets will be revealed to help your firm better understand your chances for success. Some insider tips will be fairly obvious, but many will come as a complete surprise to those who labor painstakingly on proposals and presentations hoping for success.

You’ll hear valuable insights plus tips and recommendations for improving writing and presentation skills. Examples will include proposal and presentation successes and failures. “Little Piggy Proposals,” “The Cram,” and “Death by PowerPoint” are all covered with insight and humor to drive home the point that proposals and presentations need to be about the client, not the presenter.

Learning Objectives

During this webinar, attendees will:

  • Better understand the selection process
  • Learn what selection committees typically look for
  • Discover what can influence the selection of professional services firms
  • Explore how to write better proposals that will get noticed
  • Learn techniques for more effective presentation
Thank you for your response. Please feel free to contact us for more information.
Sincerely,
Christine White, CPSM

SMPS ALASKA JUNE EVENT

Doer/Seller and Beyond: Targeting Your Efforts Bootcamp

success_target.jpg

Join SMPS Alaska for a “targeting your efforts” bootcamp to get the most out of the 40 hour work week as someone who has multiple roles.

Everything is different in Alaska. As doer/sellers we not only need to wear the many hats of running a business, but we need to do it in a place where the rules always seem to be a bit different. Join us for a workshop where three Alaskan A/E/C professionals discuss their experiences with large, medium and small companies with a focus on needing to be a jack of all trades and a master of some. Discussions will include: professional evolution and how we prepare ourselves for the things they didn’t teach us in school; marketing isn’t an add-on, it’s inseparable from all we do; knowing what not to do – the most important skill of all; you’re not crazy, what you experience is kind of normal; and… it’s supposed to be fun… really…

Speakers include:

  • Peter Briggs | Corvus Design
  • Melissa Branch, PE | Big City Engineers
  • Tim DeLand | H. Watt & Scott General Contractors

SMPS ALASKA

PROJECT TOUR

Glenn Highway/Muldoon Interchange

The Glenn/Muldoon interchange is currently under construction to address significant traffic volume increases, pedestrian safety and bridge clearance. Upon completion, this location will have a new diverging diamond interchange with a much higher capacity for vehicles, reduction of travel delays, and safer, more efficient pedestrian access across the highway.

Join SMPS Alaska on a tour of the new Glenn/Muldoon Interchange Improvements. Led by DOT&PF Central Region Construction Project Manager Ron Searcy, PE, we will learn the history of the project, and go on-site to explore the technical and artistic elements of the improved infrastructure. Space is limited, so sign up early!

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

Meet at the Project Field Office, located at 7985 East 16th Avenue (a three story building east of the Muldoon and East 16th/Creekside Center Drive intersection).  The Project Office is on the ground level on the far end of the building.  Parking is limited; please park at the American Legion Post 29 parking lot (Muldoon and 16th Avenue) up against the earth bank and then walk a half block up the hill to the Project Office.

Please bring a safety vest and hard hats if you have them; they are required to go on-site.

Sincerely,
Rose Hanson
